About this Blog

Hello everyone,
My name is TheLion. I am an Audiophile and a 'Walkman' collector. I have started this blog for all those who share the same interest. On this blog, I will share my love with the world of Personal Stereos. This is limited only to Personal Stereos and Minidisc Players and maybe some other unique gadgets. The common rule with all those Personal Stereos is their State-of-the-Art; High-Quality Sound, Excellent build and Unique design - in other words, Personal Hi-Fidelity Analog music players for the soulful man. The main interest (but not limited to) in Walkmans is AIWA Personal Stereos from their early years' product line from 1984 to 1991. The main interest in Minidiscs (but not limited to) is Sharp Minidiscs. I will post pictures of rare Walkmans and Minidiscs with information. Thank God for making all this possible, I hope you all will enjoy my blog.
Note: I started this blog in 2011 to offer a unique perspective for educational purposes in the world of personal Stereo. I will gladly share most of the info regarding the gadgets displayed on this blog. However, Since this blog consumes a lot of time and great efforts to assemble and maintain as current as possible, I do not get paid or gain (thru advertisement) any money to do so. Hence, I do it in my free time. Therefore, If you enjoy this one of a kind comprehensive blog Please consider a nice donation according to your enjoyment of this blog. your kind support will surely make this blog alive & Kick for years to come, it will also entitle you to a free technical support ie; questions, inquiries, and requests. please drop me a line and I'll be happy to assist ThePersonalHiFi@Gmail.com. Thank you TheLion, September 2017.

DSL gets you to the finest Bass around
We’ve all heard what large, floor-type loudspeakers can do for bass reproduction. But portables just don’t have the size or cabinet volume to create the same “deep note” response. AIWA developed DSL (Dynamic Super Loudness) for component stereo systems in 1981 as an improved alternative to conventional loudness systems. Now AIWA introduces a change designed to shake portable performance to its very roots: Dynamic Super Loudness. This new amplifier circuit does electronically what portables have been unable to do structurally: it gives deep, rich bass reproduction without sacrificing the tonal balance between highs and lows - a weak point in conventional tone controls or loudness compensation designs. With the DSL switch activated, bass, drums, and organ renditions come through with incredibly natural sound-the way good music was meant to be heard! DSL may be used to enhance all sound sources: cassettes, radio, and externally connected equipment. In 1989 The DSL was improved even finer - circuitry dynamically enhances bass output by varying the amount of attenuation according to the input signal level, resulting in more natural-sounding bass enhancement at all listening levels. Now available in selected AIWA models, DSL achieves bass performance previously unavailable from headphone stereo. Some models have a DSL on/off switch, while other models feature a two-position control to vary the amount of DSL effect. A new version, Parametric DSL, is also available on two ultra high-fidelity playback models. The new HS-PX30 allows the user to select one of two center frequencies for DSL operation, as well as one of two levels of the DSL effect. Of course, DSL operation can be defeated in all models.

Amorphous Alloy HX Head

The HS-PX30 features an Amorphous Alloy HX head, often found only in audiophile cassette decks, for a remarkable improvement in playback fidelity. Amorphous alloy displays exceptionally high maximum magnetic flux density, outstanding signal linearity, and minimal noise generation. Add to this a remarkable hardness for extra durability and you have one of the finest heads available. The HS-PX30 uses a slightly peaked contact surface to achieve greater signal linearity, particularly in low bass frequencies, for clearer, more accurate signal reproduction. Unlike most metals that have a uniform atomic configuration, an amorphous alloy is a new non-crystalline material with a nonspecific, non-directional atomic configuration. When utilized as head material, it is able to display such ideal characteristics as a high maximum magnetic flux density, outstanding signal linearity (due to lower coercivity), and minimal generation of electromagnetic noise. Add to this a remarkable hardness for extra durability, and you can understand why AIWA engineers were so excited about the potential of this new material!

Bi-Azimuth Head Alignment

This new feature automatically compensates for head alignment inaccuracies which are common to auto-reverse tape drive systems with fixed heads. When the tape reverses direction, its position shifts slightly, causing a shift in azimuth, the relative angle of the tape to the head. In either tape direction, absolutely precise azimuth alignment is essential for optimum response, particularly in the high frequencies. To assure this, the Bi-azimuth Head Alignment automatically adjusts the head to the proper position relative to the tape in each direction. Bi-azimuth Head Alignment is found on selected higher-priced models.

Feather-touch control
Full IC logic control on HS-PX30 models enables the convenience of feather-touch control. The buttons respond instantly to light touch for quick, positive operation.

Full Remote Control functions
Full IC logic control also enables the convenience of Remote Control through a wired remote module on the headphone line or attached separately. The remote controller has full controls 5 functions; Play/Direction, FastForward, Rewind, Stop/Dir, and Volume wheel. It has a back clip that can be easily attached to your shirt pocket or to the lap of your jacket.

Dolby C type NR - for less noise and more music
"Hiss" - high-frequency noise - is particularly noticeable with cassette recordings because of the format's narrow dynamic range. Dolby C type noise reduction, an updated version of the popular B type system, gives you, essentially, hiss-free recordings. Dynamic range has been expanded to unheard-of levels, fully comparable with the best audiophile recordings. Dolby C noise reduction provides twice as much noise reduction as standard Dolby B noise reduction. Whereas B-type NR improves the signal-to-noise ratio by 10dB at 5kHz, the new C-type NR improves it by about 19dB at the same frequency. With Dolby C NR only mid and high frequencies are companded (compressed and expanded), so breathing noise and noise modulation are unnoticeable, unlike some other "linear” compander systems.

Direct Servo Drive Brush-less Motor
Aiwa has improved the ability to rely on quality to achieve high output torque and speed stability. Direct drive Increased efficiency. The power is not wasted in friction from the belt or gear. It Reduced noise being a simpler device, a direct-drive mechanism has fewer parts that could vibrate, and the overall noise emission of the system is lower. It also has a longer lifespan. Having fewer moving parts also means having fewer parts prone to failure, and High torque at low rpm - Faster and precise positioning. High torque and low inertia allow faster positioning times on permanent magnet synchronous servo drives. The HS-PX30 improved version has a Module 2.4mm, it's a one-phase full-wave servo motor. With a Successful smaller spool it has far better servo motor performance and phase than its predecessor - the full-wave module 3mm (HS-PX10). Which further stabilizes the tape speed, resulting in high output torque.
